The Osaka YMCA
The Young Men’s Christian Association was founded in 1844 in London, England by George Williams with the goal of placing Christian principles into practice by developing “a healthy spirit, mind, and body.” Since then, The YMCA grew rapidly establishing facilities in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia.
In 1880, the first YMCA in Japan was founded in Tokyo and two years later, the Osaka YMCA was established. Since its founding in Japan, the Osaka YMCA has provided services for preschool education, elementary education, high school education, professional ability education, physical education, health education, international exchange, and social welfare.
YMCA Japan has expanded to 152 facilities at 33 locations in Japan and is administered as 32 independent organizational units. The Osaka YMCA continues to embrace its original philosophy by developing “a healthy spirit, mind, and body”.
